"While in Japan, Chandra Dhakal found that people were facing significant difficulties sending money back to Nepal. Discover how this realization sparked his entrepreneurial journey, transforming him into Nepal's top entrepreneur and the founder of the IME Group."
Chandra Dhakal was born into a middle-class family. After losing his father, he took on the responsibility of supporting his family at a young age.
Determined to make a better life for his family, Chandra left for Kathmandu in 2041 with just 3500 rupees in his pocket.
In Kathmandu, Chandra’s first job was at PepsiCo, earning 600 rupees a month. This was his first step into the working world.
Ambitious and hardworking, Chandra applied for a position at Rastriya Banijya Bank (RBB) and got a job as a खरीदार.
At RBB’s Bishalnagar branch, Chandra built relationships with entrepreneurs exporting garments and carpets to the USA.
Inspired by the exporters he met, Chandra started a cargo business while working at the bank, learning the ropes of entrepreneurship.
Despite his hard work, Chandra’s request for a loan to support his business was rejected by his bank manager.
Determined to pursue his dreams, Chandra left his stable bank job to focus on his business full-time.
Throughout his journey, Chandra’s brother Hem Raj was a steadfast supporter. Together, they built what would become the IME Group.
In 2048, Chandra started a garment business and faced significant obstacles due to established competitors, but he persevered.
Chandra and Hem Raj started a money exchange business in Thamel, dealing with both Nepali and foreign currencies for tourists.
While traveling to the USA, Chandra was stuck in Japan for 10 months. He noticed the difficulties faced by Nepalis in sending money back home.
In 2056, Chandra obtained a license to start a formal money transfer business, founding International Money Express ‘IME’.
Chandra faced major challenges, including currency fluctuation and illegal hundi operations. Despite this, he gained the trust of the people by legalizing the money transfer business.
Chandra’s success can be attributed to his alignment with government priorities. He invested in sectors like tourism, hydropower, banking, IT, and digital payments, creating jobs and providing essential services.
Chandra started remittance services to address issues Nepalis faced in sending money home, launched tourism companies and resorts to boost Nepal’s tourism, and invested in hydropower companies to support the country’s energy needs.
When the government emphasized financial inclusion, Chandra invested in banks, insurance companies, and cooperatives, ensuring wider access to financial services for the people.
Chandra ventured into IT companies and digital entertainment, founding DishHome to meet the growing demand for technology and digital services.
Recognizing the government’s focus on digital payments, Chandra launched IME Pay, further expanding his business and supporting Nepal’s digital economy.
Known for his alignment with government policies, Chandra’s ventures are seen as job creators and service providers, supporting national priorities.
After the 2046 political revolution, Chandra Dhakal emerged as a first-generation successful businessman, inspiring future entrepreneurs with his dedication and vision.
In 2013, Forbes listed Binod chaudhary as Nepal’s only $ billionaire. With his successful IPO plans, Chandra is on track to become the second Nepali $billionaire.
With his strategic vision and unwavering determination, Chandra Dhakal is poised to become Nepal’s next billionaire, continuing to drive growth and innovation.
